السنة الميلادية أو السنة الشمسية هى السنة التي تعتمد في حسابها على الشمس ودوران الأرض حولها، حيث تحتاج الأرض للدوران حول الشمس 365 يوم وربع تقريبًا، بحيث أنه كل أربع سنوات تحتاج الأرض لاكتمال دورتها حول الشمس إلى 366 يوم، وقد قسمها الفلكيون إلى 12 شهر وقسمت الشهور إلى أربعة فصول، فلما تم هذا التقسيم أو لماذا يحدث تغير أو تعاقب الفصول؟.

لماذا يحدث تعاقب الفصول
تقوم الأرض بنوعين من الدوران الأول هو دوران الأرض حول محورها مما يؤدي إلى تعاقب الليل والنهار كما أن هذا الدوران يؤدي إلى حدوث ميل بمقدار حوالي 23.5 درجة، أما النوع الثاني من الدوران فهو دوران الأرض حول الشمس وفي هذا يحدث تغير لزاوية الميل حسب دوران الشمس أي أن زاوية سقوط أشعة الشمس تختلف من شهر إلى آخر، وكذلك يحدث تغير في المسافة بين الأرض حيث تكون أقرب في أوقات وأبعد في أوقات أخرى، مما يؤدي إلى تعاقب فصول السنة.
